Ainu culture including oral literature, clothing, music,
folkcraft and rituals has a variety of unique characteristics and is a
precious historical heritage. Making the most of and promoting these cultural
features will prove the diversity of Japanese culture.
However, the successors of Ainu culture and traditions have
been decreasing yearly due to the aging, and the training of successors
and the restoration and preservation of skills are becoming urgent tasks.
At present, however, Ainu history, traditions and culture
are not fully understood by the general public. Dissemination of Ainu culture
is essential for the diversified development of Japan's culture.
