Having lived in Hokkaido since olden days, the Ainu have cultivated and maintained their unique view of the world symbolized by iomante, Ainu patterns and other unique cultural features, as well as their own language during their long history.
However, we must say that the Japanese peoples' understanding
of Ainu history and culture remains at a low level. For "Building
a society where the ethnic dignity of the Ainu people is respected,"
it is necessary to make utmost efforts in promoting the nation's understanding
of the Ainu's history and culture.
