2000 Ainu Craft Contest (July 15-17, 2000)

A contest of woodcraft and modern creative works using traditional Ainu skills was held for three days from July 15 at the exhibition hall on the first floor of "Kaderu 2.7" in Sapporo. There were magnificent works of clothing with Ainu patterns that give them an original artistic flavor and unique hunting gear;unfortunately, some of the skills used in creating these have already been lost. Aiming to restore lost skills and promote modern creative activities using such skills, this contest awards excellent works in order to develop the skills and encourage artistic activities.
