Mitsuru Sugimura

 Mitsuru Sugimura has served as a technical instructor of woodcraft for many years to improve and transmit the Ainu's lifestyle and culture and has achieved brilliant success in providing many people with the means to create woodcraft works. As the Director of the Transmission Department of the Asahikawa Ainu Council, Sugimura has contributed greatly to the transmission, preservation and prosperity of Ainu culture by giving instruction on Ainu rituals and ceremonies and on the production of bamboo-thatched cise, dugouts, trap arrows and other hunting gear.

1941 Graduates from elementary school (advanced course) attached to Asahikawa Normal School.
1956- Begins to record and preserve yaysama, yukar, kamuy-nomi and oina of ekasi and huci.
1962- Serves as the Director of the Transmission Department of the Asahikawa Ainu Council.
1965- Serves as an instructor for Uneusara(friendly get-together) in Bifuka.
1974- Serves as an instructor for Local History Research Society of Maruseppu.
1976-1982 Serves as a director of Association for The Transmission and Maintenance of Ainu Intangible Culture.
1977- Serves as an instructor for Local History Research Society of Nayoro.
