Mukawa Ainu Bunka Densho Hozonkai

(Mukawa Ainu Culture Transmission and Preservation Society), "Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property Protection Organization"Since its establishment in 1980 with the intention to transmit and preserve Ainu traditional folk performing art handed down in the Mukawa area, Mukawa Ainu Culture Transmission and Preservation Society has been positively engaging in transmission activities. In 1986, they started a traditional ceremony called "Shishamokamuynomi" (a ceremony to welcome shishamo smelt) in the Mukawa area. After having dedicated themselves to Ainu old-style dancing preservation and transmission activities, they were designated as a national "Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property Protection Organization" in 1994. Their achievements are highly valued in Hokkaido and other parts of Japan, and they continue to contribute to the understanding, inheritance and development of Ainu culture.
