Sachiko Kibata

She spent her early childhood with her grandparents and parents, from whom she naturally acquired the Ainu culture, including the Ainu language.
Currently, she actively participates in events held nationwide and serves as the driving force behind oral literature, for example, by demonstrating the uepeker (old tales) and kamuy-yukar (divine ballad) that she has inherited. As an instructor at the Nibutani Ainu Language School and a menmber of the Biratori Ainu Culture Preservation Society, she educates younger generations. She has thus contributed to the promotion, dissemination and awareness raisinng of the Ainu culture over a long period of time.

Resident of Biratori Town, Hokkaido

1983 Joins the Biratori Ainu Culture Preservation Society at the inception
1989 Conducts oral narration at the Shishirimura Ainu Culture Festival (Biratori Town; has since narrated every year)
1998 Assumes the post of an instructor at the Biratori Ainu Language Class (up to the present)
Takes part in Hokkaido University Ainu Charnel Icharupa (has since participated annually)
2001 Introduces oral literature, kamy-yukar (divine ballad) at the “National Culture Festival” (Gunma Prefecture)
2002 Serves as the President of a judging committee for the Ainu Oratorical Contest
2003 Serves as a member of a judgining committee for the Ainu Oratorical Contest
2004 Serves as the President of a judging committee for the Ainu Oratorical Conteset
