Sawa Kotori

Sawa Kotori has been active as a leader of the Akan Ainu Language School and the Akan Ainu Folk Culture Preservation Society. Kotori has a great store of knowledge about native dresses, embroidery and traditional cooking of the Ainu. She has promoted gastronomic and spiritual culture of the Ainu through her many appearances in cooking programs on TV and other activities. Also playing a central role in the Marimo Festival and other traditional Ainu events, Kotori has contributed greatly to the diffusion of and education on Ainu culture.

1979 Cooperates in the production of a documentary film "Traditional Ainu Dancing in Akan" produced by the Akan Board of Education and the Akan Ainu Folk Culture Preservation Society .
1983 Cooperates in the editing of a Sapporo TV program, "Ekashi and Fuchi -- A Record of the People Who Lived on the Northern Island."
1986 Receives the Akan Award for Distinguished Cultural Service .
1987 Cooperates in the production of a documentary film "Traditional Ainu Dancing-- Shiraoi and Akan Edition" produced by the Hokkaido Board of Education.
1993 Cooperates in the editing of "Living in a Kotan" published by Iwanami Shoten.
1995 Cooperates in the production of a documentary film "Seasons and Lives of the Ainu 3 - Storing, Drinking and Eating" produced by the Association for the Transmission and Maintenance of Ainu Intangible Culture .
