Seijiro Yae

In 1963, Seijiro Yae began activities by opening his house to the public in order to preserve and transmit traditional Ainu folk dances and songs passed down to the Harutori area in accordance with ancient ritual, and exerted himself to establish the present Harutori Ainu Ancient Ritual Folk Dance Kushiro Rimuse Preservation Society in 1967.From 1975 to 1977 and from 1979 to the present, he served as president of the Society, working as the driving force in the designation of National Important Intangible Folk Cultural Properties in 1984 and playing a supportive role in the activities of the Society including public performances at home and abroad.Furthermore, as an Ekasi (elder) of the Eastern Hokkaido area and one of the few Ainu culture traditionalists in the Ainu language, he served as priest in various ceremonies and teacher at the Kushiro Ainu Language School, greatly contributing to the promotion of Ainu culture.

1967 Contributes to the establishment of the Rimuse Preservation Society in the Kushiro Branch of the Ainu Association of Hokkaido (renamed "Harutori Traditional Ainu Dancing - Kushiro Rimuse Preservation Society" in 1983), and since its establishment has participated in many public performances of traditional Ainu dancing at home and abroad.
1970 Serves as a priest in Kamuynomi (prayer to gods) and Icarpa (prayer for the repose of ancestors' souls) in "Kotan Festival" hosted by the Kushiro Branch of the Ainu Association of Hokkaido, and since then has been serving as a priest in those ceremonies performed every year.
1989 Becomes a teacher at Kushiro Ainu Language School.
1990 Commended for educational practice within the Kushiro jurisdiction.
1992 Receives the Hokkaido Cultural Properties Protection Merit Medal.
2000 Receives the Kushiro City Cultural Promotion Award.
