Sumiko Sawa

She was taught Ainu old-style dancing, as handed down in the Mukawa region, by her mother in her early childhood.
She participated in the establishment to the Mukawa Ainu Culture Transmission and Preservation Society in 1980 and has contributed to the transmission and preservation of Ainu old-style dancing as a member of the Society since its inception. In paticular, she engages in educating her successors as one of the few instructors of hussa her, Ainu old-style dancing unique to the Mukawa region, thereby contributing greatly to cultural transmission and preservation activities.

1980 Joins the Mukawa Ainu Culture Transmission and Preservation Society
1995 Performs Ainu old-style dancing at the 7th Ainu Folk Culture Festival (also performs at the Festival in 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2004)
1998 Serves as an instructor of Ainu old-style dancing for an Ainu folk cultural asset preservation and transmission activity project
Serves as an instructor for an Ainu Old-Style Dancing Class
Performs the Ainu old-style dancing at the International Folk Performing Art Festival
2002 Serves as an instructor of Ainu old-style dancing for an Ainu folk cultural asset preservation and transmission activity project
2004 Serves as an instructor of Ainu old-style dancing for an Ainu folk cultural asset preservation and transmission activity project
2005 Serves as an instructor of Ainu old-style dancing for an Ainu folk cultural asset preservation and transmission activity project
