Teshikaga Town-Kussharo Kotan Ainu Culture Preservation Society

The Teshikaga Town-Kussharo Kotan Ainu Culture Preservation Society began with activities centering on Ainu old-style dancing and has conducted transmission and preservation activities in earnest, including the restoration of local traditional ceremonies and rituals. The Society has continued to participate in various types of cultural events in and outside the Teshikaga Town. In 1994, Ainu old-style dancing that they had helped to transmit and preserve was designated as part of the nation's Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
The Society has also contributed greatly to the promotion, transmission and development of the Ainu culture. For example, they have conducted a broad range of activities intended to disseminate the Ainu culture among numerous citizens and held gatherings aiming to have students come in contact with the Ainu culture at elementary and junior high school levels in neighboring municipalities.
