Toyoko Akibe

Together with her late husband Fukutaro Akibe, she has long engaged in activities aiming to transmit Ainu Culture. She helped establish the foundation of the Kushiro Rimse Preservation Society of Harutori Ainu Old-Style Dancing and has conducted a wide range of activities as a member since the society's foundation. Currently, she is an executive member of the Preservation Society and contributes greatly to its development.
In addition, she has also engaged in the production of "mukkuri" (Ainu mouth harp), a traditional Ainu musical instrument for more than three decades, thus devoting herself to the dissemination of traditional arts. She makes enormous contribution to the transmission, dissemination and the raising of awareness of Ainu culture in the Kushiro region.
